obituary for Richard arlington herritt

 

Rev. Richard Arlington Herritt, 87, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the Harrisburg Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Ruth (Battles) Herritt, his sons Stephen, Thomas, and Richard J., and daughters Cynthia (Herritt) Keefe, and Elizabeth (Herritt) Fitzgerald.
His daughter Linea (Herritt) McIntire passed away at age 62.  He leaves 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  He is survived by his brother Robert.  He was predeceased by his sisters Shirley Haynes and Patricia Kehrer.

After graduating from Nyack Missionary College (now Nyack College) in New York, he married Carolyn Battles in the Hershey, PA Rose Garden.   They became Assistant Houseparents for 36 boys in the Milton Hershey School with her parents, Fred and Esther Battles.

For 43 years he pastored Christian and Missionary Alliance churches in Harrison Valley, Paintersville, and Tower City, PA, Newark, DE, Baltimore, MD.  He was also an Evangelist, Church Planter, and Interim Pastor at several churches.  He was the team Chaplain for the Baltimore Orioles from 1979 to 1985.  He worked as Chaplain for the Dundalk Fire Department.  He and his wife founded an ACE Christian School.

The culmination of his career was to help scores of people overcome problems through Spiritual Warfare counseling.
